Why People working in Sales and Marketing need well-written Content

Are you working in sales and marketing?

If so, you understand how important it is to have good content to work with when selling to prospective customers.

What I mean by 'good content' is content that is readable, concise, clear and coherent. Content that you can be proud of.

For brochures, capability statements and other marketing collateral, the content should be able to persuade the reader to take action, whether it be requesting a quote or seeking out more information. The marketing material, like capability statements, should complement the sales person's techniques and approach to selling, no hinder them.

Indeed, we can all agree that attention spans are decreasing. As Matthew Coppola from Client Centric Executive Employment Solutions pointed out, that presenting a prospect with an exhaustive 24-page document that reads like a technical manual probably isn’t going to produce the desired result. There are a time and a place for detailed service offerings and demonstrating your technological know-how concerning specific client scenarios.

People working in sales and marketing need well-written content because it not only equips the salesperson with great marketing materials, but it also helps the prospective client make a well-informed purchasing decision.

When a prospective client reads a marketing brochure, advertisement or any other sales material for that matter, the content inside of it should:

  • Be relevant
  • Be concise
  • Be clear
  • Be coherent
  • Be logical and reasonable
  • Move them to take the next step in the sales process
Because of these points, it makes sense then for every salesperson, marketer and business development manager to review their content or utilise the professional content and copywriting services of Client Centric to make sure their content hits the mark and does it's intended job which is to help sell, inform and persuade the customer.

You may have come across a position and as part of the job application process, they have asked you to address a set of key selection criteria in addition to attaching a copy of your resume and cover letter. So, you may ask, what is selection criteria and what is it used for? According to the University of Melbourne , they define selection criteria as: Key  selection criteria are the skills, attributes, knowledge and qualifications  that the employer has defined as being essential for satisfying the  requirements of the job and can be found in every Position Description.  So that the employer has some level of surety that who they interview can meet the requirements of the position, they use a set of selection criteria , which can be anywhere from 5 criteria to 15 criteria. Candidates who do not address each criterion run the risk of not being shortlisted for the role. A risk, that many wil...

Despite everything going well and to the benefit of the candidate, it's still important to put your best foot forward for the role and make a fantastic first-impression. Like always, it makes sense to prepare well for the interview. Here are my top 10 questions that may like t...
